Shows that Deserve Emmy Nominations

After Community’s success at the TV Critics Choice Awards with six noms and the award for Best Comedy, I thought of making a list of some of the more under appreciated shows I think deserve some recognition.  While I know a lot of the awards will go to the overrated ModFam, or AMC’s Mad Men, there are a ton of shows that will be looked over this TV season.

Community – The hilarious and well written show Community, with albeit incredibly niche appeal like that of Arrested Development, has received no Emmy love yet.  Hopefully it’s success at the TV Critics Choice Awards and Hulu’s Best in Show will show Emmy voters that Community is a force to be reckoned with.

Nominations I’d like to see:

  • Danny Pudi, Donald Glover, or Jim Rash for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
  • Joel McHale for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
  • Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, or Gillian Jacobs for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
  • Outstanding Comedy Series
  • Remedial Chaos Theory or Basic Lupine Urology for Writing for a Comedy Series

Fringe – Although the JJ Abrams drama has suffered from the ‘genre curse’ that plagued Battlestar and other greats, Fringe is truly terrific, and while not on par with shows like Mad Men and Game of Thrones, deserves some form of recognition, especially considering the majority of the cast plays two different characters.

Nominations I’d like to see:

  • Anna Torv for Lead Actress in a Drama Series
  • John Noble for Supporting Actor in a Drama series
  • Outstanding Drama Series

Happy Endings – The Friends-esque comedy Happy Endings isn’t perfect, but the cast of this sitcom is incredibly funny, and the writing is amazing.  Damon Wayans Jr. is hilarious as Brad, and Eliza Coupe and Casey Wilson are both great in in their respective roles as control-freak wife Jane and chronically single Penny.

Nominations I’d like to see:

  • Damon Wayans Jr. for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
  • Eliza Coupe or Casey Wilson for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
  • Outstanding Comedy Series

Nikita – Not only was the spy show Nikita better than it’s last season, it was also one of my favorite shows of the season.  Nikita is definitely one of the most underrated shows on The CW, and is definitely the only one that has a great cast, excellent writing, and a plot that doesn’t revolve around vapid twentysomething women.

Nominations I’d like to see:

  • Lyndsy Fonseca for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
  • Wrath for Writing for a Drama Series

Complete side note – I would love to see Ryan Cartwright get nominated for portraying high-functioning autistic technopath Gary on Alphas.  The rest of the show, however, is just OK, not amazing.  Syfy didn’t even put Ryan Cartwright on the ballot though, opting instead for David Strathairn, Azita Ganizada, and Malik Yoba.  What were they smoking? Anyways, this is just a short list of the people and shows I’d love to see nominated.

What do you guys want to see get nominated?  Who do you think will win an Emmy?
