Why I’m Excited for Arrow

After the season finale of Smallville last year, I longed for a campy, action packed superhero show to take its place.  Now, a year and a half later, The CW’s new show Arrow is here to vill the void.  While it’s not based on Smallville, and doesn’t include Smallville Green Arrow Justin Hartley, Arrow still looks like an interesting take to a DC classic.

Arrow retells the classic Green Arrow origin story.  Oliver Queen is shipwrecked on an island for years, where he becomes an expert marksman.  He’s rescued from the island and returns home where he vows to help save Sterling City from the criminal underworld.  Pretty much every early review has been incredibly positive, including an article by The Hollywood Reporter which compared the fight scenes to those from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and said the show felt “more mature than Smallville”.

Arrow looks like it’s going to be a great show.  I’m hoping it’s as much of a hit as Smallville, because The CW needs some programming not aimed at self obsessed teenage girls.  Watch my blog for the review of the pilot after it airs on October 10th at 8pm.
